As a real estate agent and past loan officer I have had years of experience helping immigrant clients and young first time home buyers build their credit from scratch. To have a credit score you have to have open trade lines that are created from credit cards, car loans or mortgage accounts. If an individual has not open credit trade lines then they most likely will have not credit score. The cleanest way to build up your credit from scratch is to get two secured credit cards from a bank. Start with US bank and bring in 300 dollars that you can put in the form of a bank check to send in with your application. Any US bank office will help you fill out and mail their form. Charge a tank of gas on the card and always keep the total balance under 20% at all times. Never make a late payment and in 90 days you should have three credit scores from when your first payment is received.
